Billy W. Abbott

Billy W. Abbott, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2020 at the age of 73. Billy was born on November 24, 1946, in Blossom, Texas, to James Arnold Abbott and Exie Idel Cockran. He was later raised in Lindale, Texas, where he graduated high school and attended Tyler Junior College. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Praytor, on August 26, 1967. He began his career with Amoco Production Company, where he progressed and ended his career as field superintendent after 30 years of service. Upon retiring, they returned to Lindale. Billy was a member of First Baptist Church of Lindale, the Lindale Masonic Lodge #848, and Sharon Shrine. He served as transportation coordinator to carry children to Shriner and Scottish Rite hospitals around the state of Texas. He enjoyed camping, hunting, and spending time with his family. His retirement hobby was woodworking and restoring antique trunks. His precious grandchildren knew that Granddad could fix anything and everything for anybody. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Abbott; two sons, Marc Abbott and wife Kristi of Midland, Texas and Wade Abbott and wife Chanda of Friendswood, Texas; four grandchildren, Joseph, Mackenzi, Madison, and Callie; sister Ann Brazeal; brother Donald Abbott; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers J.C. Abbott, James Abbott, and Gary Abbott; and sisters Betty Janvier, Syble Puffer, and Mary Asmus. Services will be held at 10:30a.m., Wednesday, June 3rd at the Caudle-Rutledge-Daugherty Funeral Home in Lindale, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family has designated the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas, Texas or charity of your choice for memorial contributions. IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 restrictions required by the CDC and Gov. Greg Abbott, please be aware there are limitations on occupancy to both funeral services and visitations.
