Dell Brunson

A graveside service for Dell Brunson, age 83 of Hideaway, Texas, is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Mt. Sylvan Cemetery in Lindale, Texas with Rupert Anthony of Hideaway Lake Community Church officiating. Dell passed away Monday, December 28, 2020 at his home in Hideaway. He was born April 11, 1937 in Wills Point, Texas to the late Nolan and Fae Brunson. Dell relocated to Dallas during his childhood and made a lifetime of friends there while playing football at Sunset High School. Sometimes in life you are blessed with finding that someone early, and it was in his sophomore year that he found Janice Gorman and his mate for life. In his senior year, with Dell at half-back, the Bison made it to the State Finals. Dell and Jan have remained friends with many of their Sunset classmates for the last 64 years. After receiving an associate degree in Industrial Electrical Engineering from Arlington State Junior College, Dell served in the Naval Air Reserve as an aviation electronics operator. Dell worked throughout his life as an electronic technician and field engineer. Dell and Jan lived in Duncanville, Texas for 30 years and for the last 20 years have lived in Hideaway. They are members of Hideaway Lake Community Church. Dell developed a passion for golf in retirement and made many friends which they have enjoyed on and off the golf course. Dell was a true outdoorsman, and loved the mountains, hunting, and fishing. He was also proud to be involved in Meals on Wheels and Toys for Tots. Most of all Dell, enjoyed spending time with his loving family. He was preceded in death by his sister, Verla Cauley. Dell is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jan Brunson of Hideaway, children, Steve Brunson and his wife, Heather of Amarillo, Scott Brunson and his wife, Diana of Quitman, and Amy Schultz and her husband, Donny of Mabank; grandchildren, Hali Schultz, Dustin Schultz, Devin Schultz, Phillip Brunson, Davis Brunson, and Brianna Chelette; great grandchildren, Kaidyn Deupree, Jordyn Deupree, Landyn Deupree, Liam Schultz, Grayson Schultz, Boston Chelette, and Kylan Chelette; and numerous other loving family members and friends. Honorary pallbearers are golf groups at Hideaway Lake, the “Nine Holers” and the “Nooners”. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 1, 2021 at Caudle-Rutledge-Daugherty Funeral Home in Lindale. As a COVID-19 precaution, masks are required at all visitations and funeral services. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels of East Texas, 3001 Robertson Rd.
