Joseph "Joe" Franklin Goodson

Private graveside services will be held for Joseph “Joe” Franklin Goodson, age 84 of Rockwall, Texas, at the Lindale City Cemetery in Lindale, Texas. Joe passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2020 in Rockwall. He was born January 29, 1936 in Tyler, Texas and has lived in Rockwall since 1989. He graduated from Hillcrest High School in Dallas and attended University of Texas for 2 years before finishing his Business/Marketing degree at SMU. Joe served his country in the United States Air National Guard and was active in the college ministries at Park Cities Baptist Church and Prestonwood Baptist Church of North Dallas. Early on Joe worked in sales at Balfour and later became sales manager at Taylor Publishing Company. For over 50 years, Joe has been an avid antique collector and dealer. He has also written and published books on antiques and collectables of the Old West and about the Y.O. Ranch of Texas. Joe was an extraordinary person who never met a stranger and became a trusted confidant to many along the way. Blessed with keen intellect, sharp wit, fierce loyalty and staunch conviction, Joe stood up and stood out among men. A genuine leader who was not afraid to stand alone, and never one to "go along to get along", Joe taught his children and those around him the value of doing what is right in a world that often celebrates what is wrong. He had the integrity and humility to admit his faults and to strive for growth in his walk with Jesus Christ, whom he loved above all. Joe deeply loved the people in his life, beginning with his dear wife and his family. They will be forever grateful for him. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Jake Bernard “J.B.” and Adena Brumbelow Goodson. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sonja Goodson of Rockwall, Texas; children, Carole Harless and husband, Philip of Allen, Texas, Joe Goodson and wife, Molly of Temple, Texas, and Tommy Goodson and wife, Dedra of Lindale, Texas; grandchildren, Courtney, Cassidy, and Avery Harless, Grace and Faith Goodson, and Gage, Lainey, and Crew Goodson.
