C. L. Smith

Funeral services for C. L. Smith , 85, of the New Harmony Community in Tyler, TX is scheduled for Saturday, December 3, 2011, 10:00 a.m. at New Harmony Baptist Church with Bro. Robbie Caldwell officiating. Graveside services will follow at the New Harmony Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home in Lindale, TX. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, December 2, 2011, 6-8 p.m. also at Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home in Lindale. C. L. went to his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, November 30, 2011. In his commitment to his beloved church, New Harmony Baptist, he served as a Deacon for 60 years, church treasurer, a Sunday School Teacher, and was President of the New Harmony Memorial Association. In his love of singing, he was a member of the New Harmony Baptist Church Adult Choir for many years and more recently the New Harmony Baptist Church Senior Choir. C.L. was born November 9, 1926 in the New Harmony Community, to the late Clyde L. and Ora Smith. He graduated from Tyler High School in 1944. At this time he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Upon being discharged from the Navy because of Rheumatic Fever he furthered his education and graduated from Tyler Commercial College. He retired from Delta Drilling Company with 30 years of service. He then received his Real Estate License and worked for Coldwell-Banker Real Estate and the City of Tyler. In addition to his parents, C.L. was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Jere Smith; brother, Billy Smith; nephew, Derris Smith and great nephew Ryan Smith. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 12 years, Bettie Walker Lisby Smith; son, Mike Smith of Tyler; daughter, Lisa Stokes of Tyler; Step-Children; Elaina Phillips of Ft. Worth; Kevin Lisby of Wills Point; Phillip and Jill Hodebeck of Edgewood; grandchildren, whom each of their lives will forever be touched by the Christian life and example their "Papa" led: Staff Sgt. Jeff and Tawnya Smith of Washington; Matt and Erika Smith of California; Seth Stokes of Arizona; Daniel and Sarah Hudson of Overton; Sam Stokes of Tyler; Lindsay Phillips of Ft. Worth; Zac and Jessica Rabe of Van. Great-Grandchildren; Kaitlyn Smith; Venessa Smith; Victor Smith; Jack Hudson; Katy Brittain; Evy Brittain. One Sister-in-law, Mary Jane Cagle. Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and a host of friends. Pallbearers include John Bristow, Tony Patton, Richard Rounsavall, Dennis Aaron, Wayne Rogers, Cory Caldwell, Travis Smith and Ben Smith. Honorary Pallbearers include the New Harmony Baptist Church Deacons, Dick Johnson, Bobby Gimble, Herman Gimble, Glen Weaver, David Thedford, Gary Mason, and Steve Bynum. Special Thanks to Dr. Wayne Gluf, Neurological Surgeon and Kent Vandergriff, Nurse Practitioner of Trinity Mother Francis Hospital and all the caring people of Tyler Continue Care Hospital and Homeplace Hospice.
