Funeral services for Mrs. FanChon Melvin, age 80, of Hideaway Lake, TX, are scheduled for 10AM on Saturday, August 2, 2014 in the Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home Chapel in Lindale, TX. with Scott M. Edwards, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Lindale City Cemetery. Mrs. Melvin died on Monday, July 28, 2014. She was born on August 28, 1933 in Quail, Texas unto Theodore Travis and Audra Kerly Allred. She was raised and educated in Clarendon and later graduated from West Texas State University in Canyon Texas with a Bachelors degree in education and began her teaching career in Amarillo. She married John Eddie Melvin on July 28, 1957. They were blessed with two sons John Mark and Carl Travis Melvin. She retired after 30 years of teaching in the River Road School District near Amarillo and with her husband moved to Hideaway Lake in 1992. FanChon was a member of the Hideaway Lake Community Church and was an avid mahjong player, loved playing games, going to “the boats” watching crime shows or just “chill out” with family. She was an avid Rangers and Cowboys fan. Her grandchildren Trevor and Mariah were the joy of her life. To celebrate FanChon’s life, the family requests that you wear bright colors to her service. FanChon was preceded in death by her husband, John Eddie Melvin, a son, Carl T. Melvin and her parents. Survived by: Son: John Mark Melvin and wife, Cindy of Lufkin Sister: Mrs. June Dorman and husband, Don of Granbury Grandchildren: Trevor John Melvin of Austin and Mariah Elizabeth Melvin of Lufkin Sister in Law: Carlene Akridge of Oklahoma City, OK Mother In Law: Edith Melvin of Elk City, OK. Nieces and Nephew: Melanie Sweeney of Denton, Renea Romans of Southern California, and Andra Dorman of Overland Park, Kansas, and Gary Dorman of Amarillo. Extended Family: Scott Edwards, Jr. and Jason Joe of Amarillo, Judy Brister and Linda Dillard both of Hideaway and Gary Burns of Amarillo. Pallbearers: Jason Joe, Don Miller, Scott M. Edwards Jr., Gary Burns, Trevor John Melvin, and Mariah Elizabeth Melvin. Family will receive friends from 6PM to 8PM on Friday evening at the Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home in Lindale.
