Funeral services for Mr. Gary E. Allen, age 64, of Tyler, Texas are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Friday, May 29, 2015 in the Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Daniels and Rev. Brett Wells officiating. Interment will follow in the Sand Flat Cemetery with Rev. Michael Cox officiating and services under the direction of Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Directors in Lindale, Texas. Mr. Allen died Monday, May 25, 2015 in a Tyler hospice center. He was born on March 8, 1951 in Tyler, Texas to the late Willie Andrew, Jr. and Mattie Charlene (Reed) Allen and was a lifelong resident of Tyler. He had previously attended Winona schools, John Tyler High School and Tyler Junior College. Mr. Allen served in the United States Army having been drafted in 1970 and spent 2 years in Germany. After his military service, he worked in Dallas for SW Tablet and W. A. Allen & Sons, which was his family’s rose business and for Greyhound and Kerrville Tours. He was a jack of all trades and master of most. He was definitely a master auto mechanic and could repair or rebuild anything that had 2 or more wheels. Mr. Allen was a carpenter, electrician, plumber, farmer and cattleman…you name it and he could do it. He never met a stranger and loved to share his life experiences and hear the life experiences of others. He was a member of the Crossbrand Cowboy Church in Tyler and was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patsy Allen; and brother, Doyle Allen. Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Alethea Allen of Tyler, Texas; 2 sons & daughter-in-law, Scott & Sherry Allen of Overton, Texas and Lance Allen of Longview, Texas; 6 daughters & sons-in-law, Patsy Allen of Garland, Texas, April & Troy Brown of Alba, Texas, Amber Ramsour of Lindale, Texas, Brittany & Jason Atchley of Tyler, Texas, Terri Allen of Longview, Texas and Melisa & Leroy Hickingbottom of Tyler, Texas; sister, Janice Kaelin of Tyler, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Holley, Johnny Culpepper, Carl Jones, Andrew Wagner, Larry Blackerby and Kordell Hamilton. A special thanks to the following for their commitment in helping Gary live a higher quality of life: Dr. Courtney Williams – UTMB Houston; Dr. Margaret Hayden – Tyler Internal Medicine; Dr. Taskar & Dr. Johns – UT Health Northeast; Dr. James Caccitolo – Tyler UT Northeast; Dr. English and Dr. McKellar – Hospice of East Texas . The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, May 28, 2015 at the Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home in Lindale.
