Peggy Ruth (Carter) Ferrell

Funeral services for Peggy Ruth Carter Ferrell, age 91 of Tyler, Texas, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at New Harmony Baptist Church in Tyler. Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at New Harmony Cemetery. Peggy passed away March 6, 2025 at her home. She was born August 21, 1933, at home, to the late Leonard and Margie Cates Carter. Peggy was raised on Carter Hill in the New Harmony area where her parents grew roses, blackberries, and raised cattle. Then she lived for a few months in Fort Smith Arkansas after she married Alton Wesley Ferrell on June 3, 1952 at the New Harmony Baptist Church. Peggy and Wesley returned to Tyler after Wesley got out of the Army and rented an apartment on North College Street. They then returned to New Harmony and purchased a house on the corner of FM 724 and CR 42. In 1957, Peggy and Wesley built the house on CR 46 where Peggy resided until her death. Peggy was saved and joined New Harmony Baptist Church on July 22, 1946. She attended Pleasant Retreat before becoming a member of New Harmony Baptist. She says that her parents attended New Harmony when the part time Pastor was preaching and attended Pleasant Retreat the other Sundays. Peggy was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church for 78 years where she was a member of the Choir, Senior Choir, Young At Heart, Sunday School, WMA’s, Quilting, a scrapbooking group, and many committees over the years. She would use her cooking skills frying chicken and baking pies for Chicken Supper fund raisers for the Community Center expenses .Her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and seeing them come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Taking care of her family, church and community was her life mission. Peggy attended Dixie School for the lower grades. She then attended Tyler High for the upper grades. After High School she attended Tyler Commercial College. Peggy worked for Tyler Bank and Trust for many years, which later became Bank of America in Tyler on the Square. After retirement she and Wesley took many trips in North America and abroad. She was preceded in death by Wesley, her husband of 61 years; her daughter-in-law, Michelle Ferrell; her parents; brother Jimmy Carter and sister-in-law Pat Carter. She was survived by her three children, Donald Wayne Ferrell (Beverly); Marla Ferrell Clements (Ricky); Norris Kevin Ferrell (LeeAnn); seven grandchildren, Shannan Ferrell McEuen; Shawna Ferrell Tunnell (Nathan), Aaron Clements (Danielle); Whitney Clements Sherman (Chad); Carter Clements; Paden Ferrell; Paige Ferrell Sanchez (Juan); Brittany Brandenburg Flournoy (Lucas); Brianna Brandenburg; and 14 great-grandchildren. The pallbearers will include Aaron Clements, Paden Ferrell, Carter Clements, Nathan Tunnell, Chad Sherman, and Lucas Flournoy. Memorials can be made to New Harmony Baptist Young at Heart; Peace of Hope (through New Harmony Baptist Church); or Hospice of East Texas in Tyler.
