Sarah "Ruth" Shank Werner

Services for Mrs. Sarah “Ruth” Shank Werner, age 92, of Tyler, are scheduled for 6:30 PM on Monday, July 28, 2014 in the Calvary Baptist Church in Tyler with Dr. Johnny Beard and Dr. Fred Smith officiating. Graveside Services will be held at 10AM on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 in the Hopewell Cemetery under the direction of Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Directors in Lindale. Mrs. Werner went to her heavenly home about 4 AM on Thursday, July 24, 2014 quietly in her sleep. Ruth was born on December 22, 1921 to the late John and Ivy Perryman Shank of the Hopewell Community. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter and her siblings, Mary Praytor, Vivian Harris, J.W. Shank Jr. and Mercer Shank. Ruth grew up in the Hopewell Community and in 1939 graduated from Tyler High School. She worked for the Cotton Belt until after WWII. During this time she met and married the love of her life, Percy Werner. To this union was born 4 daughters. Early in their married life they joined Calvary Baptist church in Tyler where they attended their whole married life. She was a lovely Christian woman who loved her Lord and Savior, living her life for Him through Training Union, Vacation Bible Schools, Girl’s Auxillary and teaching young ladies Sunday School. She had retired from Ruth’s Drapery Shop where she custom made drapes, then retired from Ruth’s Porcelin Dolls where she was proficient in pouring and painting the dolls. As an accomplished seamstress she dressed all her dolls. Moving on as a seamstress, she took up quilting where she pieced numerous tops and many she hand quilted making quilts for many loved ones including all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ruth was loved by many and will be missed as the Precious Godly woman she was, who dearly loved her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved all and always had a smile and kind word for those around her. Survived by her loving Husband of 70 years, Percy H. Werner of Tyler Daughters: Kathleen Godsoe and husband, Carl of Anchorage, Alaska; Marilyn Mowris and husband, Steven of Springfield, Missouri, and Janet Rowden and husband, Norman of Kilgore, Texas. 8 Grandchildren: Andrew Miller and wife, Michelle of Seattle, WA, Carrie Decker and husband, Brian of Oklahoma City, OK, Timothy Miller and wife, Carol of Oklahoma City, OK, Steven Godsoe and wife, Elizabeth of Anchorage, AK, Tabitha Miller and husband Don of Republic, MO, Benjamin Mowris and wife, Jill of Ozark, MO, Keren Hill and husband, Justin of Willard, MO, and Rebekah Dowell and husband, Captain Eli of USAF 15 Great Grandchildren: Autumn, Mara, and Willa Miller; Kayslee, Josiah, and Noelle Decker; Emilee and Sarah Miller; Alivia Mowris; Collin and Kyle Hill; Joel, Ethan, Seth and Lucas Dowell; Host of Nieces and Nephews Pallbearers: Leon Sumpter, Ty Hamilton, Christoph Stockhammer, John Mills, Frank Burgess, Lyle Skeels, and Jason Hall. Honorary Pallbearers: Norman Rowden, Carl Godsoe, Steven Mowris, Timothy Miller, Benjamin Mowris, Don Miller, Justin Hill, and Eli Dowell Family will receive friends from 3PM to 5PM on Sunday at the Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home in Lindale.
