December 17, 1938 - February 3, 2022

Funeral services for Dustin “Gene” Lowe age 83 of Lindale, Texas are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at the Caudle-Rutledge-Daugherty Funeral Home Chapel in Lindale with Pastor Craig Lacy officiating. Interment will follow at Jamestown Cemetery in Smith County. Gene passed away Thursday, February 3, 2022, at Hospice Home Place in Tyler. He was born at home in the Wisdom Temple community outside of Van on December 17, 1938 to Roberta Lee Lowe and the late John Shirley Lowe. Raised by his grandparents after his mother remarried, he graduated from Van High School in 1958. A true rancher at heart, Gene embarked on a career in the cattle industry working for COBA/Select Sires, retiring from the Tyler office with over 40 years of service. However, not being one to rest after retirement, he began working part-time with two of his former COBA co-workers for Champion Genetics in Canton for several more years before permanently retiring to his favorite fishing spot at Lake Fork. He was preceded in death by his son Keith Evan Lowe, his parents John Shirley Lowe and Roberta Lee Lowe McKinney, step-father Wilmer McKinney, infant brother Shirley Lee Lowe and sister, Nancy McKinney Ratliff. Gene also known as “Big Daddy” by his grandchildren and great grandchildren is survived by his daughter Karen and son-in-law Wade Allen of Lindale, sons Blake and Bruce Lowe of Starrville, grandchildren Amanda Allen, Emily and Trevor Smyrl, Courtnee and Jake Brokaw, Sam Lowe, Justyn Wintters, Tayllor Wintters and Karlie Lowe. He is also survived by the lights of his life, his great-grandchildren Tucker and Blaine Smyrl and Mac and Lucee Brokaw. Also surviving Gene are brother Ted McKinney of Tomball, sisters Joy Reynolds of Cookville, Betty Meek of Mount Vernon and Janet Holmes of Gun Barrel City as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be L. R. Sprott, Bob Woodard, Brent Wells, Mike Slover, Bruce Bach and Jay Eichler. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Caudle-Rutledge-Daugherty Funeral Home in Lindale. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, TX 75701.
