A graveside service for Michael Wayne Bowland, age 68 of Athens, Texas, is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2022, at the Lindale City Cemetery in Lindale, Texas with Bro. Dan Tarno officiating. Michael passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022, in Athens. He was born February 3, 1953, in Dallas, Texas to the late Ted and Bessie (Miller) Bowland. Michael has lived in Athens for the last 22 years and was previously of Pleasant Grove, Texas. He was a member of Grace Bible Fellowship Baptist Church in Canton, Texas. Michael was a true music and arts enthusiast, as he enjoyed playing guitar, playing in a gospel band at church, the blues, listening to Stevie Ray Vaughn, drawing, and painting. He also enjoyed Harley Davidson motorcycles and worked throughout his life as a self employed electrician. Michael was preceded in death by son, Joseph Luoma; sisters, Liz Rainey and Brenda Kay Bowland. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jo Bowland of Athens, Texas; daughter, Kimberly Benson and husband, Tommy of Lindale, Texas; step-son, Michael Watson of Houston, Texas; sister, Linda Walters of Rowlett, Texas; grandchildren, Jeremiah Bessette and fiancé, Melissa Buessing of Dallas, Texas, Clinton Toth and wife, Krystal of Cash, Texas, Shandelle Clifford and husband, Randy of Canton, New York, and Katy Brielle of New Jersey; 10 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and friends.
