Grey Elizabeth Mims Goodman

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Grey Goodman, went Home to be with her Jesus on January 6, 2015. There’s so much about her that words cannot describe and no words could do justice to the legacy of love and laughter she’s left us. Grey Elizabeth Poole was born on Feb. 10, 1920 to Cicero Calhoun and Alto Parlee Roy Poole in Flora, Louisiana. In Natchitoches, Louisiana, on March 27, 1937 she married Alton Larry Mims with whom she would eventually have eight children. Grey and Alton were married for 44 years before he passed from this life to the next. In 1988, she married Raymond Malone Goodman and was married to him for ten years. Grey was preceded in death by her parents, Cicero and Alto Poole; her husbands, Alton Mims and Raymond Goodman; two sons, Baby Boy Mims and Chester Boyd “Bobby” Mims; and a daughter, Julia Marie “Judy” Mims Bobbitt. Additionally, she was predeceased by five brothers, Leon Franklin Poole, James Thomas Poole, Cicero Carroll Poole, Arthur David Poole, and Nathan Hale Poole; two sisters, Vira Jane Olds and Viola Pearlee Jones; grandchildren, Kenneth Wayne Mims, Wayne Nivens, Jim Naylor, Johnny Dabbs, Robert Dabbs, Rose Lollar, and Daisy Lollar, and a great-grandson, Cadence Lee Williams. She is survived by two daughters, Virginia “Monkey” Hicks and Linda Borel of Amarillo; three sons, Albert “Larry” Mims and wife Kay of Tyler, Jimmy Mims of La Mesa, and Willie “Billy” Mims and wife Linda of Lindale; one brother, Otis Poole of Louisiana; two sisters, Cynthia Cecile Ballinger and Winnie Frances Friou and husband Johnny of Louisiana; 38 grand-children, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and her favorite grand-dogger, Sophia as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Services are scheduled for 10:30 am on Saturday, January 10, 2015 in the Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor James Cheatham officiating. Interment will follow in the Carmel Cemetery next to her beloved, Alton, with services under the direction of Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Directors in Lindale. Pallbearers are Josh Williams, Robert Williams, Ryan Sustaita, Cameron McMinn, Joseph McMinn, and Jordan Sustaita. Honorary pallbearersr are Brandon Nivens, Bret Mayfield, Dylan Williams and Seth Gilliland. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, January 9, 2015 at Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home.
