Jonnie Justine Juanita Samples

Memorial services will be held for Mrs. Jonnie Justine Juanita Samples, age 94, of Hideaway, Texas on Monday, October 22, 2012, at 10:30 A.M., at the Lindale First United Methodist Church with services under the direction of Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home in Lindale. Jonnie died Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Colonial Nursing Home in Lindale. She was born on March 2, 1918 in Tyrone, Oklahoma to the late Eramus and Nora (Brock) Garnett. Jonnie graduated from High School in Liberal, Kansas, attended school in Garden City, Kansas, and attended college at the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado. She married Robert T. Samples, V.P. of Western Union, in 1939 until his death in 1969. Jonnie sold real estate for Freddy Snowden Real Estate in Hideaway, Texas and enjoyed living in many locations including San Francisco, CA, Seattle, WA, Garden City, Liberal and Kansas City, Kansas and Dallas and Lubbock, Texas before moving to Hideaway in 1975. Jonnie was active in many hobbies and clubs at Hideaway, a Bridge Master and charter member of Thursday Bridge Club, Poker Player/Teacher and charter member of Women’s Poker Club, Mahjong Club, Gin Rummy Group, Garden Hobbyist, co-founder Lindale Ladies Tennis Club, charter member of Fishing Club, 9-Hole Golf member and helped with coffee for the 18-Hole Women’s Golfers for many years, Tuesday/Thursday Exercise Group at the First United Methodist Church for 30+ years, Swim Club, Variety Club, Book Club, Dance Club, Square Dance Club, Line Dance Club, Park Party Group and a lifetime member of the Salvation Army where she volunteered for many years. Jonnie treasured her 37 years of Hideaway memories, fondly remembering those who had passed before her and all the fun they had together starting clubs and activities and those who have come to live at Hideaway over the year who have made her life so rich and rewarding, and especially her loving companion Chuck Weger. Each person and every memory is special to her. Jonnie was preceded in death by her two sisters and three brothers. She is survived by her children, Susan Leedy Stewart of Sun Lakes, Arizona. and Janet L. Gary of Dallas Texas, and her grandsons, Lance Leedy, Derek Leedy, John Gary and Mike Gary.
