Margie Matlock

On Aug 16, 1925, God sent a very special gift to the world. The world has enjoyed that gift for 100 years now, but on Jan 15, 2026, God called her home. Margie Brawley was born to Sid Brawley and Inez Marston Brawley in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Margie was a beautiful baby who would have won the beautiful baby contest that was held a few weeks after her birth, but she came in second. The judges said her tummy was too big. However, she did overcome that handicap She developed into a child with a huge personality that included intelligence, devotion, athleticism, and positivity. She was spunky enough to explore active volcanoes in Indonesia, to travel to the other side of the world alone, to help train horses in Texas, and to go down giant water slides at the age of 60. She learned to snow ski in her 70's, she fell off the back of a motorcycle and thought that was funny, she waded out into the ocean with a cane in her 90's (and found it hilarious when a large wave knocked her down). She also competed in go carts with her grandkids, leaving bruised grandchildren behind. They adored her anyway. She was intelligent enough to finish in the top of her class when she became a nurse. She was curious enough to try to dissect her dead pregnant cat when she was a small child, but her mom caught her in time to end that adventure. However, she did become a surgical nurse later in life, and that gave her great satisfaction. Margie was always fascinated with anything medical and loved being a nurse. She enjoyed every minute of her nursing career (even when she accidentally folded a man up in a folding table). She was always devoted to those she loved and to those things that she believed in. Her Christian faith was always strong, and it never wavered. She was devoted to her family and to her friends. She felt strongly about many issues, and she worked toward righting wrongs. Once she fought a traffic ticket in Indonesia, which could have been a big mistake. However, she won. After that, her child made her a t-shirt that said “Prudence Pureheart” on the back. She wore it proudly. Athleticism? She loved to ride horses and motorcycles. She water skied, and she constantly worked outside in her garden and her many flower beds. She played on volleyball and softball teams. She loved animals of all kinds and loved raising shelties for several years.....all with a big smile on her face. She loved the Lord and is now loving him up close. She loved people, her life, and her family. She was a strong presence in her evolving family structure. Her family moved from Oklahoma to Winnsboro when she was a Senior in high school. She met DeLon Saxon and married him when WWII was starting. She was a “Rosie the Riverter” and a great mom to David and Nancy. Later she became the wife of Bill Jump and inherited a beautiful daughter, Phyllis. Margie married Troy Matlock after Bill's death, and then she gained Terry and Lois Matlock and their precious family. They were married for 30 years before Troy passed away. She has met all of life's challenges with spunk, faith, positivity, and a huge smile on her face. When she became a widow 15 years ago, she moved to Lindale to be with her family She spent her last two years at Wesley House in Lindale She sang the praises of Wesley House always. She loved everything about it. She was there Jan 15, 2026, when her large, loving family surrounded her as she met her Savior face to face. Survivors are her children: David (Susan) Saxon, Nancy (Don) Walters, grandchildren Kim (Scott) Saunders, Paige (Bryan) White, Elizabeth (Derrick) Rogers, Brad Saxon, Richard (Kristy) Saxon, and great grandchildren Sam (Emily) Saunders, Hannah (Habib) Azzam, Morgan (Andrew) Smith, Graham (Hannah) White, Jaci (Collin) Jumes, Rachel (Tom) Steuber, Faith (Meshak) Chavez, Emily Saxon, Tea Saxon and nine great-great grandchildren. There will be a celebration of her life well lived on Monday, January 19 at 1:00 p.m. at Caudle-Rutledge-Daugherty Funeral Home in Lindale, Texas. She will be laid to rest at a graveside ceremony on Tuesday, January 20 at 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park in Gilmer, Texas.
