Maui VanMeter

Maui VanMeter, age 91 passed away peacefully on April 9, 2010 at Clyde Cosper T.S. V.H. in Bonham, Texas and is now reunited with the love of her life and our Lord, Jesus Christ. Mrs. VanMeter was born June 22, 1918 to James Edward Wilson and Dora Cook Wilson in Liberty Hill, Louisiana. As the youngest of four children and while still an infant, the Wilson family moved to Dallas, Texas permanently. She was a graduate of Sunset High School and at the age of 18 married George G. VanMeter on September 19, 1936 in Dallas, where the two lived until retiring to their beloved Hide-a-Way Lake, Lindale, Texas in 1971. Maui was a devoted, loving Christian daughter, wife and mother. She not only actively participated in the Cub Scouts serving as den mother, she was a Girl Scout Troup Leader for ten years. She served as P.T.A. president four times in the Elementary, Jr. High and High School of her two children. She actively participated in the Roses of Sharon, along by the side of her husband whom was a member of the Shrine and Hide-a-Way Lake Shrine Golf Unit. Maui and George were active members of Trinity Christian Church and later for many years, Oak Cliff Christian Church. Upon moving to Hide-a-Way Lake the two transferred membership to the First Christian Church of Tyler, Texas. In later years she and George returned to college and obtained their Real Estate and Brokers license where they began a business and sold real estate at Hide-a-Way for many years. George and Maui made many wonderful friends throughout their lives together, but none as dear to their hearts as while living at Hide-a-Way Lake. The couple relocated to Sherman, Texas in 2001. it was in 2008, due to declining health, Maui moved to Clyde Cosper, located in Bonham, Texas. Her loving husband George of 67 years, precedes Mrs. VanMeter in death, as well as son Michael VanMeter, parents, sister and two brothers. Her daughter Glenda Wagoner and husband Ed of Denison, Texas, two grand daughters, Mrs. LeAnn Reed and husband Lynn of Gunter, Texas and Mrs. Ashlee Hopewell and husband Scott of Houston, survive her. Three great grandchildren, Jake Fanning 16, Peyton Fanning 9, and Phoebe Fanning 7, of Gunter and a fourth great grandchild , due in late September, to Mr. and Mrs. Scott Hopewell. Graveside services and interment will be held Monday, April 12, 2010 at 2:30 in the afternoon at Roselawn Memorial Garden in Mineola, Texas. Family will receive friends from 10-Noon Monday at the funeral home.
