Mildred Virginia Foster Howard

Mildred Virginia Foster Howard stepped onto Heavens shore on January 1, 2012 just six days from her 102nd birthday. Mildred was born on a farm in La Cygne, Kansas on January 7, 1910 to Traber A. and La Nora (Gwin) Foster. In 1919 the family moved to a farm near Goodwell, Oklahoma. Mildred graduated from high school there and attended Panhandle A&M College. It was there she met the love of her life, Everett Howard, a handsome athlete. They were married September 5, 1930. In 1935, in the midst of the dust bowl and depression, they moved with their daughter, Phyllis to Electra, Texas. In Electra, Everett was employed with Conoco Oil Company and Mildred began working for Electra State Bank as a bookkeeper. She retired in 1976 as Vice President and served on the Board of Directors for several years. Mildred was active in her community and church. She served her church as Treasurer for 15 years. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Everett and her five siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Barker of Hideaway, Texas; grandson and wife, Van and Tara Barker of Guthrie, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Cherilyn Goldhammer of Hideaway, Texas; great grandson, Dustin Barker of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and great great granddaughter, Jillian Barker of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Also, very special nephews and nieces, Ed and Dorothy Thompson of Mt. Vernon, Texas, Marsha Decker of Republic, Missouri, Gary and Pam Freeman of Fairland, Oklahoma, Arthur Freeman of Littleton, Colorado, Fred and Susan Baker of Torrance, California, Glenn Freeman of Keller, Texas, Jim and Betty Freeman of Anaheim, California, Ron and Peggy Foster of La Plata, Missouri, Salene Funderburk of Dallas, Texas, Ava Martin of Ft. Worth, Texas and Verna Moore of La Habra, California. The life and times of Mother, Mildred "Mid" and Aunt Mid will always be remembered. "Her children arise and call her blessed" Proverbs 31:38. Services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, January 5, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, Electra, Texas with Rev. Charles Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in the Electra Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home of Lindale, Texas. Family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
